BCS Higher Education Qualifications

Certificate in IT
Certificate in IT has three core modules.  They are Information Systems, Software Development, and Computer and Network Technology.

A minimum 200 hours of study is recommended for each module with a two-hour written exam at the end of each module.

Those who successfully complete the Certificate in IT are eligible to apply for Associate Membership of British Computer Society (AMBCS)More...

Diploma in IT
To study the Diploma in IT, you will need to have achieved, or been made exempt from, the Certificate in IT level.  Core module Professional Issues in Information Systems Practice along with three other optional modules need to be selected.

A minimum of 225 hours of study is recommended for each module with a two-hour written exam at the end of each module.

Those who successfully complete the Diploma in IT with three years' experience as an IT professional are eligible to apply for Professional Membership of the British Computer Society (MBCS).

Those who are not going on to study the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT, will also need to complete a Professional IT Project in order to finish the Diploma in IT.  A minimum of 200 hours of study is recommended for the project.  More...

Three modules from following:

  2. Database Systems
  3. IT Project Management
  4. Object Oriented Programming
  5. Systems Analysis and Design
  6. Principles of Internet Technologies
  7. IT Service Management
  8. Software Engineering (Part 1)
  9. Principles of User Interface Design
Professional Graduate Diploma in IT (PGD)
To study the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT will need to have achieved, or been made exempt from, the Certificate in IT and appropriate Diploma in IT level modules.

A minimum of 250 hours of study is recommended for each module with a three-hour written exam at the end of each module.  Practical experience is required to answer some parts of the exam.

Professional IT Project
To complete the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT, needs to complete a Professional IT Project, which is the academic equivalent of a university honours degree project in England and has a recommended minimum study time of 300 hours.

Those who successfully complete the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT with Professional IT Project are eligible to apply for Professional Membership of British Computer Society (MBCS).  It also enables to apply for selected postgraduate courses at universities in UK as well as in many other countries.  More...
